Wado-Ryu

Ohtsuka was a Japanese master of karate who created the Wado-ryu style of karate. He was the first Grandmaster of Wado-ryu karate and received high awards within Japan for his contributions to karate. He was also a former assistant instructor to Okinawan master and Shotokan founder Gichin Funa-koshi. He also trained under Motobu and Mabuni and studied kobudo. Ohtsuka Sensei opened his own karate school called the Dai Nippon Shinko Kai where he blended Shotokan karate with his knowledge of Shindo Yoshin-ryu jujutsu to form Wado-ryu.
Walter Todd Sensei became the first foreign student of Ohtsuka Sensei.
